Studies that we support

At The Lullaby Trust, wrecognise the importance of research in improving understanding of infant care and baby loss, and supporting families and professionals. If you are an academic or organisation seeking to recruit participants for a study relating to SIDS/SUDI, pregnancy, infant care or baby loss, please get in touch. We’re committed to sharing ethically approved, good quality research wherever possible. Please read our guidelines below carefully before submitting your research recruitment request.

Research recruitment guidelines

The ‘Applicant(s)’ refers to the individuals and/or organisations that have requested The Lullaby Trust to advertise recruitment for their research. ‘Families’ refers to the prospective participants.

  1. The applicant must clarify if the research is sudden infant death (SIDS) and/or sudden unexpected infant death (SUDI) related. If not, specify why it’s important that The Lullaby Trust should make families aware of the research.
  2. The applicant must provide The Lullaby Trust and families with the possible benefits and risks of taking part in the research.
  3. The applicant must provide The Lullaby Trust with evidence that an appropriate ethics committee has given approval of the research.
  4. Families must have the opportunity to read and consider the information from the applicant with no obligation to take part.
  5. Families must be allowed enough time to consider and reflect on the implications of participating in the research.
  6. Once families have contacted the applicant to express their interest, the applicant must not put any pressure on the families to commit to taking part.
  7. The applicant must obtain the families’ written consent to take part.
  8. Families must be made aware that they can withdraw at any time.
  9. The Lullaby Trust is unable to directly recruit participants for research projects. Accepted applications will be added to the Take part in a research study area of our website for families to search.
  10. The Lullaby Trust reserves the right to choose what studies are promoted more widely (e.g. on our social media channels) dependent on availability, and how well the particular project aligns with our strategic aims.

As a small charity, we carefully manage requests we receive to ensure they align with our overall strategy and capacity, based on a set of criteria.

How we can support your study

If accepted, your study will be added to the Take part in a research study area of the website. On occasion, we may be able to share studies via our newsletters or social media channels, however this is at the discretion of The Lullaby Trust based on how closely the study aligns with our overall strategy.

We are unable to share studies that do not have ethical approval, directly recruit participants on your behalf, or share any personal data of our supporters.

Evidence base

Our baby safety advice is based on decades of research. This has helped us understand the risk factors for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Seminars and events

We attend many national and international events that cover sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and sudden and unexpected death in infancy (SUDI).
