Who is the training for?

CONI training is designed for health professionals who are going to be or are a CONI coordinator, are a health visitor or midwife in their local area where the CONI programme has been commissioned. The training courses include recorded presentations, videos, and signposting to useful information and further reading.

CONI coordinator training

Who this training is for:

CONI training is designed for health professionals who are going to be or are a CONI coordinator in their local area where the CONI programme has been commissioned.

Training content: 

CONI training is undertaken via a Distance Learning module style course. It is estimated to take between 6 hours (update) or 12 hours (initial) over 12 weeks.

Certification: 

We will provide a certificate of attendance on receipt of your evaluation form. Please note that a certificate is valid for 3 years.

 Cost per person: 

  • Initial £55 (includes a resource pack)
  • Update £25 (requirement is a minimum of every 3 years)

The CONI programme: role of the midwife training

This free training includes detailed information about the Care of the Next Infant (CONI) programme so that midwives will be able to talk to expectant parents about what emotional and practical support CONI can offer them.

Who this training is for:

Specifically aimed at midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers working in areas of England, Wales and Northern Ireland where the CONI programme is commissioned and available to local families.

Unfortunately this training is not open to midwives in Scotland at present.

Training content: 

A recorded training presentation that includes detailed information about the Care of Next Infant (CONI) Programme so that midwives can talk to expectant parents about what emotional and practical support CONI can offer them.

In addition to this training, there is a free A5 easy read card in English to act as a memory aid for midwives antenatally, which can then be given to the expectant parent(s). It is also available in a printable PDF format and there are PDF versions of the card in a range of languages to support inclusivity of CONI.

The CONI programme: role of the health visitor

This free online training includes detailed information about the Care of the Next Infant (CONI) programme. It will provide health visitors with the information needed to knowledgeably discuss CONI with parents. In some areas, you may also carry out regular CONI visits whilst liaising with your local CONI coordinators for advice and support as needed.
