Professor Peter Fleming

How it started

In 1970, Nancy Hunter-Gray gave a researcher £200 to hold a conference to find out why her grandson, Martin, had died suddenly and inexplicably.

This led to the creation of the charity and, since then, we have invested £12 million and worked with world-leading researchers to find out why babies die and how to prevent it. Research, such as that by Professor Fleming which informed our ‘Back to sleep’ campaign in 1991, has saved over 30,000 babies’ lives.
