Why we exist
We keep babies safe and grieving families supported. Giving families a safer start to life, and creating a supportive space for anyone whose baby or infant has died suddenly or unexpectedly.
At The Lullaby Trust our work has, and continues to be, the collective legacy of the families that drive it, in memory of their babies. Whilst we may look and feel slightly different, we want to be clear: our commitment to every baby, and every family, remains the same. We are here for you now, as we always have been.
We will continue to provide support, guidance, and advice when it’s needed most, to whoever needs it. We hope that our new look with accessibility and inclusivity at the centre, will allow many more people to find us.
We are immensely proud of our 54 year heritage. There’s no question that changing our name from the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths to The Lullaby Trust in 2013 made us more relatable and approachable. It enabled more communities and families to find our life-saving advice, and access the support they needed.
In the decade that has followed, our work has evolved significantly. We’re reassuring more families than ever before, but our identity hasn’t quite kept up with our growing ambition and drive. We needed to change to reflect this.
Our new identity underpins our mission to end all sudden and unexplained infant deaths, and reflects our expanded remit. As the rates of sudden infant death syndrome thankfully decline, we continue providing our life-saving safer sleep messages, whilst targeting these where we know the rates are highest. This includes deprived communities. We have expanded into providing even more baby safety advice including infection prevention, as well as guidance on baby products, and prevention of accidents. This will be reflected in our ‘baby safety hub’, being the go-to resource for any new or expectant family, beyond just safer sleep.
We’ve not only refreshed our look and feel but have also completely redesigned the site with you in mind. Our goal was to make your journey smoother, ensuring that everyone in our diverse community can easily access the information and support they need. Aiming to ensure that those who need us most, find us in an instant. Whether you’re looking for advice, guidance or bereavement support, we want to make finding it as simple, seamless and sensitive as possible.
With the help of our supporters, we have become an incredible force for change. Together, we have been instrumental in reducing the number of babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly in the UK from 19 per week in 1991 to four per week today, saving the lives of over 30,000 babies. But this is still four babies too many, and we won’t stop until this number is zero.
Launching our new look feels like a pinnacle moment in the future of The Lullaby Trust. We are excited to evolve and embrace our new, wider remit, whilst remaining the same reassuring presence we have always been. We hope you are excited too, and will continue to remain by our side as we take our next big stride forward to a world where no baby dies suddenly or unexpectedly.
This rebrand is so much more than a fresh new look. On top of our safer sleep advice and expanded bereavement support services, which we are known best for, our messaging has expanded to include the full range of advice and support families can receive from us. We provide life-saving infection prevention advice, guidance on baby products, and accident prevention. We also now have a Professionals Hub, where all of our resources and training for any professional who works with families and babies, including healthcare, early years, and those working with bereaved families.
Our website has been completely refreshed, which not only makes us more visible to funders, but also allowed us to focus on enhancing accessibility. It provides a smooth and inclusive experience, which ensures that anyone and everyone can access and understand the life-saving messages and research-proven advice we’re proud to share.
We’re empowered by our new look, and we feel it’s about time we change with the dynamic world around us. Our old brand served us well, but looking at what baby safety priorities are today, our new brand will allow us to drive forward to support babies and families in the ways that we know will make the most difference.
Our new messaging is there to highlight the increasingly broad scope of what we can offer to support people. We hope to reach a wider audience of families and individuals who will benefit from our support and guidance, and as a result, save even more babies’ lives, as well as appeal to more funders and supporters in a crowded market place, where fundraising is becoming even more challenging.
Ultimately, our values have remained unchanged and continue to be at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to babies and families is unwavering, and that remains central to who we are and what we stand for. We simply want to share more of what we know, and support more families.
Over 500 people in our community fed back, ensuring that they continue to be at the heart of our new brand and website. Our new digital-first identity reflects their stories and strengthens our position as a leading voice in baby safety and bereavement support.
The dark purple against the yellow has a higher colour contrast than our old logo, making it more accessible to everybody, including those with visual impairments. Our primary colour palette is now AAA rated for accessibility, which is the highest attainable standard.
Our branding remains clear, simple and memorable so people can easily recognise us, and trust us to give accurate and reassuring guidance.
Our social media channels are still the same, so be sure to follow our page so you don’t miss a safer sleep tip, any bereavement support, or a fundraising opportunity.
