Midwives play a crucial role in identifying when expectant parents have experienced a SIDS/SUDI, and are anxious about this subsequent pregnancy.
The Lullaby Trust, with support from the charity Teddy’s Wish have produced new resources that can be used by midwives in the antenatal period, in the areas of the UK where the Care of the Next Infant (CONI) Programme is offered to parents.
The new resources consist of a free A5 easy read card in English to act as a memory aid for midwives antenatally, which can then be given to the expectant family. The card will be available in other languages to support inclusivity of CONI including:
The translated versions will grow over time and all are in a printable PDF format.
There is also a free recorded training presentation, designed for midwives. It gives detailed information about the CONI programme to provide midwives with the information to be able to talk knowledgeably to expectant parents about what emotional and practical support CONI can offer.
If you are a midwife, and work in an area CONI is offered and would like further information about accessing these resources please email coni@lullabytrust.org.uk. Visit the CONI resources page to see other available publications including symptom diary and weight chart.
