Sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) is one of the most common categories of infant death and around half of cases remain unexplained. Infection has been recognised as a possible cause of SUDI, but methods used to test for infection after death are outdated and the results are often unclear.
You can help fund a three-year long research project at Great Ormond Street Hospital that would use new techniques to investigate whether certain combinations of infection-causing bacteria are associated with SUDI, and whether the presence of these bacteria is related to known risk factors for SUDI, such as sleeping position or infant age.
