A partnership between The Lullaby Trust and Snuza was launched in 2019 to support families at the most difficult of times. The partnership, driven by Snuza UK distributor Nimans Home, focuses on supporting bereaved parents through The Lullaby Trust’s CONI programme which provides support for bereaved parents who go on to have another baby. Parents who have experienced a sudden and unexpected death of a child often feel anxious when they have another baby. The Lullaby Trust works with the local providers of public healthcare services to coordinate a national health-visitor led service for bereaved parents

The Snuza HeroMD Portable Baby Breathing Monitor is a wearable, medically certified device which attaches to a baby’s nappy and monitors their breathing while they sleep. The HeroMD detects the slightest of breaths and will alert parents if breathing is weak or stops. The Snuza HeroMD is accessible to bereaved families on our CONI programme in order to provide a little comfort for the first few months when their new baby is home.

Rebecca Fuchs of Nimans Home says: “We are thrilled to support The Lullaby Trust and the valuable work they do. The Snuza monitor is so reassuring for parents and especially so for those having a rainbow baby. We are so pleased to embark on this partnership and support parents in such a worrying time”.

The Medicine and Health products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has reinforced the importance of having medical device certification on baby breathing monitors, by ruling that ‘baby breathing and movement monitor devices* are now required to apply for Medical Device Certification and become compliant in order to be allowed on the UK market’.

You can easily check for a “relevant medical device conformity mark, either a CE mark or a UKCA mark, or a combination of those markings”, with the manufacturer’s Notified Body number alongside it.

*This decision does not apply to stand-alone audio/visual monitors, which simply provide parents and caregivers with a live audio or audiovisual feed of their baby. However, audio/visual monitors with a built-in breathing/movement monitor will require certification.
