Training overview

This in-depth training is designed for professionals and practitioners who work closely with families and have a core responsibility for providing safer sleep advice. Whether you’re a health visitor, midwife, family support worker, or other family-facing professional, this course will deepen your understanding of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and equip you with the tools to confidently share The Lullaby Trust’s evidence-based safer sleep guidance in your everyday practice.

The course features informative video presentations, supported by additional reading materials and publications to reinforce key learning points. You’ll gain a clear understanding of  safer sleep advice to help support families in reducing known risks.

Within the training you’ll explore the fundamental messages around creating a safer sleep environment for babies and how these practices can help reduce the risk of sudden infant death. We will also build on this by discussing the wider risk factors that increase a baby’s risk of  SIDS. This includes the effects of second-hand smoke, smoking during pregnancy, the importance of antenatal care, supporting breastfeeding, and immunisations. It also examines co-sleeping, including how to bed-share more safely and  some of the risks associated with co-sleeping.
