Information about the Angelcare AC25-1 Monitor

1. You can nominate a family for an Angelcare monitor (if we have them available) whilst enrolling the family onto the CONI programme. Fill in the CONI enrolment form, and ensure you tick the ‘Movement Monitor’ box to reveal the option to nominate for a monitor.
2. With the parent’s consent, complete the address information.
3. As the CONI coordinator, you should check that the monitor has arrived with the family. If it hasn’t within five working days from the request, notify the CONI team.

To be eligible, families must be: 

• Eligible for CONI programme support (in line with local CONI guidelines). 

As the coordinator, you must assess the practical need and/or family choice:

Practical need: 

• An Angelcare AC25-1 is the easier or more appropriate option for the family compared to other monitors, or
• The monitor is needed urgently due to a late referral, the baby is already born or there are no other monitors available, or
• The baby is over six months old, and a mattress monitor is not available. 

Family choice: 

• The family expressed a preference for the Angelcare AC25-1, after the coordinator explained all options available. 

We carefully select the monitors that we do and don’t use on the CONI programme, to ensure they are helpful to families and don’t add to any existing worries or anxieties.  

All monitors on the CONI programme must be medically certified devices. This ensures they have undergone a rigorous process to meet safety and performance standards. 

We also select monitors that offer less information, rather than more to parents. Some monitors track a baby’s heart rate and oxygen rate for example. A medical professional is needed to interpret a baby’s heart rate and oxygen rate, and we find that measuring too much can actually give families more to worry or become anxious about.

As a CONI coordinator, it is your responsibility to: 

• Discuss the monitor arrangement with your manager, who should seek local legal/governance advice before you start to talk with families. 
• Assess the family’s suitability for an Angelcare AC25-1. The coordinator should feel that this is an easier/more appropriate monitor for the family to use than other monitors available. 
• Explain to the family the terms of their receiving a monitor. This can be found in the ‘What do I need to tell the family?’ drop-down below. 
• Follow the nomination and enrolment process correctly. 
• Ensure the monitor has arrived with the family. Notify [email protected] if it has failed to arrive. 
• Discuss the limitations of monitors and reducing the risk of SIDS by ensuring baby sleeps in the yr un ystafell as their parent/carer, day and night. Our monitors webpage can guide you through this conversation. 
• Discuss what to do if the alarm goes off. This includes basic life support instruction and a plan of helping their baby until help arrives. 
• Gather the parent or carer’s verbal consent to send their name, address and telephone number to The Lullaby Trust – this will not be used for any other reason.

• Explain that the monitor is a gift from the manufacturer of Angelcare AC25-1 (not the health visiting service or The Lullaby Trust). 
• Explain that the family are responsible for the monitor, and they can keep it. It doesn’t need to be returned to The Lullaby Trust, or their CONI coordinator. 
• Tell the family that the monitor will be sent directly to their home address. Delivery takes approximately five working days from the request. It does not fit through a standard letterbox.
• Explain that each monitor is given on the understanding that it is for single use, for their baby only. 
• Ensure the family knows that if the monitor is lost/broken, they may be lent another sort of monitor locally. But the offer of an Angelcare AC25-1 is not usually repeated. 
• Tell the family to log any complaints or problems directly to Angelcare via their online contact form and then their coordinator. When contacting Angelcare, they should state their monitor is via the CONI programme.
• Explain that a Lullaby Trust/CONI information leaflet will be contained within the monitor box. 
• Advise the family to visit the Angelcare website for more information about the monitor. It includes a helpful video in the ‘How to use’ section. 
• We would also appreciate it if you could ask parents if they’re willing to give feedback to The Lullaby Trust via the feedback form at the end of the programme.

1. We receive and review the enrolment form, performing rigorous checks. 
2. Send the coordinator a link to the nomination form. 
3. Order and dispatch the monitor to the family. 
4. Respond to any queries regarding non-delivery, keeping the coordinator updated.
