My big 4-0 birthday triggered a really monumental change of life for me and my family. We moved from Wimbledon, where I had always lived, to West Sussex, I left my job in local government after 19 years, endured a family bereavement and dodged a serious health scare.
After a whirlwind year of settling my family into a new school, community and home I decided it was time to look for a new job. I had no fixed idea of what I wanted to do but was determined that it would be a job where I made a positive difference to individuals and perhaps even society as a whole.
When a job came up at the Lullaby Trust for Regional Development Officer it offered everything I wanted and more; the job involves offering safer sleep and bereavement support training to health professionals, reviewing policy and discussing possible changes to organisations such as public health. .
The role is very flexible, so fits around my busy family life. The people that I work with are amazing and the organisation as a whole is truly inspiring. I think the Big Give is a fantastic opportunity to raise an incredible £60,000 and its amazing to think that with these funds we will be able to reach more and more parents with our life saving Safer Sleep advice
What I love about my role is the fact that I can help make a difference and I feel I have fulfilled the brief that I borrowed from Ghandi - be the change in the world you want to see.
