If you’ve been affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or young child, we know that reaching out for support can feel difficult, and sometimes, typing can feel easier than talking.

If you’re looking for someone to chat to online, our webchat service offers a calm, confidential space for anyone over 18 years old, to connect directly with our bereavement support advisers. Our team is here to listen, support, and help you process whatever you’re feeling right now.

Our webchat service offers a safe, confidential space to chat to one of our bereavement support advisers online, Monday to Friday 10:00am to 12:00pm.

You can reach out to us at any time, whether your baby died recently or a long time ago. We aim to support you in a way which feels meaningful and helpful to you.

You can use webchat if:

You have experienced the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or young child
You are supporting a bereaved family member or friend
You have questions about grief, coping, or the support available
You're a health care professional who works with bereaved families and you're seeking support for yourself

What to expect when you use our webchat

Who will I be chatting with?

Our Bereavement Support Team is very small. You will connect to one person in a quiet, confidential space. Even though it’s online, you’ll be chatting with someone who genuinely cares and who will take the time to get to know you and the baby or young child you are remembering.

What will the chat be like?

We’re here to listen. We will gently follow your lead and support you throughout the conversation. Many people find that typing their thoughts and feelings can feel surprisingly freeing. Some describe feeling a little lighter afterwards, or relieved that their grief and love were heard and held with care.

Where do I begin?

Begin where you need to. You can type whatever feels right, whenever you are ready. Some special things that families often find comfort in sharing include:

Your baby’s name, including any special meaning or story attached
The special people in their life
Their character and what they liked to do
How you’re feeling today

You never have to share more than you want to. Needs can change over time and can feel very different from one day to the next. We’re here for you in the early days, during difficult moments or anniversaries, and at any time that feels harder, no matter how much time has passed.

Speak to a befriender

Befriending is a listening support service that is offered to all adult family members who have been bereaved. Our team of befrienders are bereaved parents, grandparents and adult family members who can offer support.
