Training overview

This short but powerful training is designed for professionals and practitioners who may come into contact with individuals or families who have experienced the death of a baby, but who do not provide ongoing bereavement support. Whether you’re a receptionist, paramedic, social worker, or anyone whose role might involve brief contact with bereaved families, this course will help you feel more confident in responding with sensitivity and care.

Through a selection of video and written resources, the course explores the principles of compassionate communication and how to engage with families during an emotionally vulnerable time. The training offers practical guidance on what to say, and what not to say, when supporting someone in the immediate aftermath of baby loss.

You’ll gain a foundational understanding of perinatal loss, how grief may present differently for each individual, and how to respond in a respectful, empathetic, and professional way. It also includes helpful signposting options for bereaved families who may want additional emotional or specialist support.
